Tolerant Oppositionalism (more of a way to see religion than an actual religion)

Religion-wiki — for all religions and none

Jump to: navigation, search

As said in the title, this isn't really a religion. It's more of a way to believe what you already believe. Despite the use of the word Oppositional, it is not really opposition of other beliefs; but I, following the stereotype for most mathematicians, do not take long to name what I make... and I don't know how to change the titles on my articles.

Tolerant Oppositionalism is the way I like to learn more about religion, so that I can improve my religion, Zhazudism (yes, I am still looking for a better name for that, too). As one might guess from the name, it is essentially a way of debating various beliefs, except instead of asserting your belief, you merely tell others what you believe, ask them what they believe, and discuss the various questions and suggestions that either of the people that are talking want to discuss, WITHOUT insults, threats, or ignorance.

Us Tolerant Oppositionalists feel differently about religion than most other people, of course. The way we see religion is that is is more of a way of searching for the truth, like science. And as a way of searching for the truth, we feel that it is necessary to learn a sufficient amount of information about a religion before making any judgements. It is rare that we ever allow ourselves to insult a religion, for in doing so, we are not only disobeying our own rules, but we are allowing tension to rise. We believe that it is at least somewhat because of such ignorance that various catastrophes such as the burning of the Library of Alexandria, the Crusades, and the Holocaust happened. So, instead of insulting religions, we seek to learn more about the religion through peaceful discussion.

Another belief of ours is that faith itself is not a good way to learn. By definition, faith is essentially belief in what you don't know; it's a nicer way to say gullibility. But that doesn't mean we don't believe; it simply means that we learn at least a little of the justification of what we believe before we believe it. We all use at least a little bit of non-faithful believing; if we belong or want to belong in a group, there's got to be a reason for belonging or wanting to belong in that group.

I will add more information to this article as I see necessary.

UPDATE: I have come up with a better name for this: Cooperative Theism. Unfortunately, I still don't know how to change the titles of articles, which you can probably already tell.
