Timothy F. LaHaye (b. 1928) is a Christian minister, author, and speaker one of the founders of the Moral Majority movement in the United States. He is well known for his Left Behind series of apocalyptic fiction, which he co-wrote with Jerry B. Jenkins. He has written over fifty books, both fiction and non-fiction.

LaHaye received a B.A. from Bob Jones University in 1950. He also holds a Doctor of Ministry degree from Western Conservative Baptist Seminary and a Doctor of Literature from Liberty University. Lehay is dispensational and Arminian in his theology. He is married to activist and fellow author Beverly LaHaye; they have four children and nine grandchildren.

LaHaye became politically active at the Christian Voice advocacy group in the late 1970s and early 1980s. In 1981 he helped found the Council for National Policy (CNP), a conservative lobby group membership of which is only available by invitation (not to be confused with the liberal Center for National Policy). In the 1980s, LaHaye also founded American Coalition for Traditional Values and Coalition for Religious Freedom.

LaHaye sues Left Behind film producers

Previous to the Left Behind film release in 2000, LaHaye sued Namesake Entertainment and Cloud Ten Pictures in July, 1999, claiming there had been a breach of contract. The suit said that the producers told LaHaye that the budget for the movie's production would be over $40 million. However, productions costs came to $17.4 million.[1]

  • "To suggest that the merciful, longsuffering, gracious and loving God of the Bible would invent a dreadful doctrine like Calvinism, which would have us believe it is an act of ‘grace’ to select only certain people for heaven and, by exclusion, others for hell, comes perilously close to blasphemy."
