Prayer
Religion-wiki — for all religions and none
Prayer is the act of communication with the divine. It can include worship and asking for blessings and forgiveness.
[edit] In Christianity
The archetype for all prayers in Christianity is the Lord's Prayer. Also known as the "Our Father," it details the aspects of worship, forgiveness, and blessing:
9"This, then, is how you should pray: " 'Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, 10your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. 11Give us today our daily bread. 12Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.[a]Another popular prayer in Christianity is known as "Now I lay me down to sleep":
- -Mathew 6:9-13, New International Version
Now I lay me down to sleep,
I pray the Lord my soul to keep.
If I should die before I wake,
I pray the Lord my soul to take.
The prayer has recently been considered too "dark" to teach children, and some offer alternate versions:
Now I lay me down to sleep,
I pray the Lord my soul to keep.
See me safely through the night,
And wake me with the morning light.
