He obtained his Ph.D. in 2005 from the University of Toronto. The dissertation title was “Rethinking the Relationship between Religion, Secularism and Liberal Democracy: Toward a Democratic Theory for Muslim Societies” (Supervisor: Professor Frank Cunningham).
