Mount Quarantania is a mountain approximately 366 m (1 200 feet) high, located about 11 km (7 miles) north-west of the West Bank town of Jericho. According to the public domain Catholic Encyclopedia, Quarantania is "a limestone peak on the road from Jerusalem to Jericho". It is the site of a Greek Orthodox monastery. It is traditionally accepted by Christians to be the scene of the temptation of Christ, and is mentioned in Matt. 4:8.

It is mentioned in a poem of the Temptation event by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. See Christus: A Mystery (I:1:2 Mount Quarantania).
