In the Book of Genesis we are told that God created the woman as a helper for the man, and that they would cleave together in marriage. In the New Testament Jesus reinforces this, saying that no man should divide what God has made into one. Conservative Christians state that the Bible clearly states that God shows us that the only right place for a sexual relationship is in a marriage between a man and a woman, and that outside of this, it is a sin against God. However, few issues cause as much division in today's church as issues related to sex outside of marriage and homosexual relationships.

Biblical passages on marriage
Judah did evil in the eyes of the LORD. By the sins they committed they stirred up his jealous anger more than their fathers had done. There were even male shrine prostitutes in the land; the people engaged in all the detestable practices of the nations the LORD had driven out before the Israelites. - 1st Kings 14:22,24
Gay marriage is a highly controversial topic in Christianity. Generally considered unbiblical and sinful, a few liberal denominations have embraced the concept causing significant division within them.
