The gospel of Mark finishes without the resurrection of Jesus. So some people (such as Bishop Shelby Spong) argue that Mark did not believe in Jesus' resurrection. This claim is contradicted by other passages in Mark. Jesus predicts his death, in <bible>Mark 8:31</bible>,
- "He then began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, chief priests and teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and after three days rise again."

Jesus also predicts his death in <bible>Mark 10:33-34</bible>
- "We are going up to Jerusalem," he said, "and the Son of Man will be betrayed to the chief priests and teachers of the law. They will condemn him to death and will hand him over to the Gentiles, 34who will mock him and spit on him, flog him and kill him. Three days later he will rise.""

Similarly the resurrection itself is talked about in <bible>Mark 9:9</bible>:
- "As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus gave them orders not to tell anyone what they had seen until the Son of Man had risen from the dead."
