Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (born Ferdinand Lewis Alcindor Jr. in New York City, 1947-) is a famous former basketball player, coach, and author. He is best known for playing with the Los Angeles Lakers for 14 seasons, during which he became famous for his "skyhook" shot, which was difficult to block because of his 7'2" height.

He is a Muslim, having conerted in the late 1960s from Catholicism. In November 2009, he announced that he had leukemia.
