Jesus

Jesus is believed by Christians to be the Son of God. Even though the, now common, dating system BC/AD is based on the time of his birth, it is thought Jesus was born around 5 BC rather than 1 AD, in Bethlehem, Judaea. His name is the English version of the Latin Iesus, which is based on the Greek Ιησους (Iēsous). This is how his name appears in the Greek New Testament, and is based on the Aramaic/Hebrew name Yeshua`, a variation on Joshua.

The gospels record his preaching and miracles, but especially focus on his execution by crucifixion. Christians believe that, on the third day from his death, he was resurrected, and met with his disciples for forty days before his ascension into heaven.

Jesus is also considered to be a prophet in Islam.
