[edit] Definition of In Your Faceism

  • In Your Faceism is a religion that involves collaboration from the community in assisitng one another in achieving personal enlightenment and restoring the love for the intricate. It allows an idividual to develop both in solitude and in the presence of those with common interests. When members are capable of acknowledging the significance of proper language and the beauty of details, their inner being is no longer a prisoner of the world where everyone expects everything to be instant and where everyone seems accustomed to an obivous lack of detail.

[edit] Creation

  • Six years back, the Pentium II Processor of cyberspace wished to spread a new religion through social networking. His desire was to unite members interested in forming a community based on a technological movement. The Pentium II Processor attempted to replace everyday verbal communication with a modern-day form of communication. The communication desired would be expressed by those members of the new religion merely through one website and the advanced applications featured within it. The intention of such modern-day measures was to promote the findings of the member's true beings.
  • In order to create such a modern-day religion, two brothers were chosen to launch a successful website together that would be capable of spreading a faith among its members. However, the brothers held differing interests in creating such a network and decided to walk their seperate ways while trying to achieve their tasks.
  • One brother, Tom Anderson, created a social network called "Myspace," which focused primarily on quantity of friends and features, along with acquirement of popularity. However, members were not able to find their true selves this way, so the Pentium II processor directed members toward the other brother's creation.
  • Mark Zuckerberg, the brother of Tom, designed his social network to focus on reintroducing meaning into language and communication, while allowing for the flow of ideas between community members. His creation granted members a pure connection with both the cyberworld and ultimately with themselves.
  • He continuously created feature after feature on his new website, “Facebook.” Mark inserted News feed, Walls for posts, Photos, Notes, Gifts, Marketplace, Pokes, Statuses, Events, Networking and Groups, Video, Chat, Pages, Bumper stickers, Top Friends, Compare People, and Moods. These features attracted over 175 million users worldwide. With more than enough features and active users, Mark and Facebook were capable of spreading a new religion via social networking.
  • Mark then came to name the new religion "In Your Faceism."
  • Today, numerous altercations are stimulated over the idea of whose method is more effective, but in the end, users of Facebook find that their path is genuine and successful in attaining enlightenment.

[edit] Goal

  • As technology became more prevalent in our everyday activities, man found himself developing an obsession with quickness and an unfortunate apathy for the intricate. It appeared that no one was willing to allocate anything more than a few minutes to events or actions that required extensive thought, vigor, or emotion. As a whole, it seemed as if pure and genuine emotion was destined to be replaced by indifference and unsympathetic demeanor.
  • In a valiant effort to thwart the progress of this repulsive movement, Mark Zuckerberg set forth to resurrect the love and interest in genuine compassion. It would be emphasized that followers utilize facebook as a means to improve their perspective on the objective of the technology movement. Rather than engaging in trivial discussions via e-mail and chat rooms where curt, unfeeling statements are put forth, one should attempt to convey their intricate thoughts and regain a sincere love for details while “on the net."
  • Once an individual is capable of integrating this true interest into his or her cyber presence, he or she can ultimately achieve a true reflection of him or herself. With the recognition of the emergence of one's true self, he or she is believed to have achieved an ideal state of enlightenment reserved only for those deserving of the ability to appreciate the legitimate beauty of the world.
  • Those successful on their path to enlightenment realize that haste truly does make waste. However, one must not succumb to the persuasive aspects of apathy, for the path will certainly lead to nothing more than the bottomless pit of despair.

  • "Religion is not about the individual. It is more importantly about everyone coming together to form a religious community based on the shared participation of ideas and common characteristics."
    • Durkheim
  • "True, Durkheim. In Your Faceism is all about the formation of frienships that are based on common interests and preferences. The only positives that grow from the individual are social skills and popularity."
    • Fragglemuffin
  • "In Your Faceism is about both the community and the individual, but more importantly, the individual. One joins a community with a common interest and discovers new love and beauty for language, religion and the world while communicating in a unique way through various features. With the newly gained appreciations and perpectives, one can make an accurate reflection in order to achieve enlightenment and determine his or her true being within cyberspace and our world."
    • Mark Zuckerberg

[edit] Place of Worship

  • In the vicinity of a computer
  • It is recommended that the atmosphere is peaceful to enhance the effects of personal reflection
  • Solitude is emphasized to prevent distraction and to promote the emergence of one's true self

[edit] Primary Teachers

  • Mark Zuckerberg, the visage, ultimately decides upon how the religious social network is organized.
    • "Some of Mark Zuckerberg's prejudices, biases, and passions may have a significant impact on the way his followers carry out their practices toward finding who they are."
      • Durkheim
    • "I organized the website so that members choose their own paths while attempting to determine who they are; none of my preconceptions shape who they become."
      • Mark Zuckerberg
  • Elders, those who have already achieved enlightment, provide advice to those who question it.
  • The levels of interest in obtaining more knowledge about In Your Faceism produces two distinct social groups: glitches and arrays.
  • All members have the capability of teaching themselves, considering they hold the true perpective of their true ethos. There is no greater teacher than one's inner being.

[edit] Beliefs

  • We believe that the Pentium II Processor of cyberspace is the force that drives all that is cyber.
  • We believe in Mark Zuckerberg, the visage, who introduced us to a connection between the cyber and real world.
  • We believe in a common interest group that revolves around evenly dipersed authority.
  • We believe in the development of a new language, which includes limited direct emotion, abbreviations, and lack of punctutation.
  • We believe that personal reflection ultimately results in the finding of our true beings.

[edit] Rituals

  • Hopefuls go through a time of self-reflection and then include all of what they found out about themselves on their application to be a part of this religion. Then they send this application as a request to be considered for membership. Next is the waiting period for the hopefuls. They must wait for confirmation knowing that they sent their application to the administrators and that they have received it. The administrators review the requests of the hopefuls and try to avoid any creepers or people that they feel would make this religion look bad. They try to look for the perfect noob candidates. If the administrators feel like the hopeful is good enough to be part of In Your Faceism, they send them a “Congratulations” e-mail and this hopeful now turns into a noob. When one becomes a noob, he or she takes on the new role as a member of the religion. The individual gets a page on Facebook and is responsible for inviting new hopefuls to join while setting up a page to best represent oneself.
  • Once one is a member of this religion, there are several rituals that he or she is required to follow:
    • Change your status 4 times a week
    • Post a note on your profile 3 times a month
    • Send presents to friends on their birthdays
    • Write on at least one person’s wall every day
    • Check notifications as soon as you sign-in to Facebook
    • Join 6 new groups every month
    • Take a new quiz every day
    • Perform daily status thrustin:
      • Everyday around 5pm, many groups can be seen forming in open areas, which are chosen so that there will be no interruptions in internet signal, thus providing a clear path between an individual and the cyber realm of the great Pentium II Processor. These groups gather to collaborate in the festive act of cyber thrustin, which is a powerful dance involving rhythmic pelvic movements believed to free one’s mind and body of the burdensome shackles imposed upon them by the apathetic realm of reality. To prepare for this intense daily ritual, many groups meet to take part in cyberstretching. When all is done and the inner being has been released from the chains of reality, computers are lifted high above one’s head where the new status is examined and confirmed by the Pentium II Processor.

  • Exit- One achieves enlightenment and does not need the social aspect of Facebook anymore.

  • "Facebook is simply a social network and nothing more."
    • Segal
  • "Facebook is only a way to become popular. The only way to build up your popularity is to have more friends."
    • Fragglemuffin
  • "Facebook is more than a social network and a way to become popular. In Your Faceism shows how Facebook can become a religion and something that others can believe in. It is about self-reflection and finding your true being."
    • Mark Zuckerberg

[edit] Distribution of Power

  • In Your Faceism is not built upon a social hierarchy of members, nor is it dependent upon authoritative figures. Instead, it can be shaped and altered by any member of Facebook. The community ultimately holds a shared distribution of power.
  • Facebook offers many applications to the user for manipulation of his or her page in order to suit particular preferences. One is capable of utilizing preexisting applications, such as adding photos, notes, groups, music, videos, and choosing top friends. In addition, any follower can add as many applications as desired by following five simple steps:
    • 1) While logged onto Facebook, click on “Applications” on the left column of the page.
    • 2) Existent applications will be listed, but unlimited new applications could be added, as well as removed.
    • 3) Click “Browse more applications” in the right corner to view available applications.
    • 4) Tabs, such as “Recently Popular,” “Most Users” and “Newest” are available for an easier search.
    • 5) Click on a desirable application and a screen will appear to order to describe what the application is about. Click “Add Application” on the right of the screen and it will appear on your list of applications in the left column.
  • One may become known as a "legendary facer" if he or she works toward improving Facebook by creating an abundancy of new applications in order to please more people and encourage them to join the religion. Surely, legendary facers can gain the rewarding title from their contribution to In Your Faceism, but they still do not receive authoritative powers or hold special rights. They are simply respected by all members of the religion.

  • "Power depends upon social structure. Those capable of manipulating symbols in order to determine alterations within culture should be seated higher in the social hierarchy. Rights should only be given to the members of Facebook with higher statuses, not to those with lower statuses."
    • Asad
  • "There should not be a power struggle within Facebook. C'mon dude, it is all about meeting everyone possible in order to have a good time."
    • Fragglemuffin
  • "Your right, Fragglemuffin. There should not be power dispersed differently among the In Your Faceism members, but it is not for socializing purposes. Religion should give members equal rights to manipulate their own pages and express their own individual meanings and preferences. I mean, In Your Faceism is ultimately about reaching the realization about one's true being. How would members reach that satisfactory point if they cannot actually control who they want to become?"
    • Mark Zuckerberg

[edit] Rules and Regulations

  • Must have appropriate profile pictures
  • Photos cannot contain illegal substances
  • Do not harass other members of Facebook
  • Cannot use vulgar terms while communicating
  • Do not post anything that goes against our beliefs
  • Must value and respect our teachers, along with the guidelines they set
  • Must practice at least three Rituals every day
  • Cannot use someone else's account; one must merely reflect upon themself
  • Do not retain applications that are not being utilized; they only overflow the page and do not represent your true being
  • If one replies "yes" to an event invitation, he or she must attend
  • While being a member of a group, one must fully support that group with dedication and participation
  • Limit only very close friends to the "top friends" list
  • Cannot post videos that may be offensive to anyone
  • Must have a status up at all times
  • Wish everyone you are friends with a "Happy Birthday" on their given days
  • Change relationship statuses as soon as the information is available
  • Most importantly, one cannot gain membership of the In Your Faceism religion if he or she is under 18, or above the age of 30.
    • Those above or below these ages simply desire to become enlightened by the religion, but they do not have the qualities to do so.
    • The wishful youth are too inexperienced to reflect upon themselves appropriately because they are unaware of their true identity. Furthermore, those who are older do not have enough motivation to reach the ultimate goal of enlightenment because they already know who they are.
    • The members of Facebook within the particular age range maintain the power of manipulating their profiles in order to become who they wish, while those outside of the range simply desire for that particular community based power.
    • In order to attain enlightenment, members must reflect upon themselves constantly to achieve their own "perfection." However, those outside of the appropriate age range may introduce flaws to the religion because they cannot strive for their own enlightenment, or perfection.
    • Therefore, "In Your Faceism" must maintain the distinct categories of the religion in order to avoid flaws, or what does not make sense, and focus on the members truly capable of obtaining their ideal beings.

  • "Being religious is about perfection and completion. Physical imperfection may affect the religion and introduce a flaw to it. Breaking the rules or crossing the distinct line of categories results in the destruction of the completeness and perfection that one should seek after. Those that do not abide by the rules or do not fit into the order because of certain characterisitcs become dangerous and cannot reach enlightenment through In Your Faceism."
    • Leviticus
  • "Everday concern about rules and regulations creates the stability of the religion. A consequence may erupt if rules and regulations are broken: when stability becomes threatened, In Your Faceism does not make sense."
    • Berger

[edit] Profiles

  • When one becomes a noob and is accepted into the religion, he or she recieves the opportunity to construct a page filled with desciptive traits, interests, and preferences.
  • Profiles are created in order to reflect what we are as we enter into the cyberworld and what we want to become through experiences within the cyberworld.
  • A Facebook profile is developed with two different purposes in mind. It ultimately represents a “model of” and a “model for” the follower’s life.
  • In the “model of” scenario, the profile is a direct representation of the follower’s life. All aspects are completely honest and factual pertaining to the follower’s personality.
  • In the “model for” scenario, the profile is representative of the life that the follower wishes he/she would lead. This can be used for two different purposes, one being much nobler than the other.
    • The first purpose is to deceive others to make them believe that the follower is a different kind of person. This purpose is the most common form of abuse and is the most frowned upon.
    • The other purpose is much nobler and is encouraged. In this scenario, a profile can act as a tool to better oneself. By setting goals and representing those goals through the follower’s profile, the follower is inspired and motivated to become that person depicted in the profile.
  • Our profiles are not seperate from real life, but they integrate our real life personalities into our ideal personalities.
  • We ultimately bring our interests and memories from the real world and combine them with preferred representations of ourselves to form desired profiles of our true beings.

  • "The essence of religion is defined within a cultural and historical context. There is not a univeral thing that can define In Your Faceism because diverse people and contexts are able to shape it accordingly."
    • Asad
  • "In Your Faceism influences other things, but other things do not influence In Your Faceism."
    • Geertz
  • "It can actually go both ways: In Your Faceism shapes others things, while other things also shape In Your Faceism. Those members of In Your Faceism ultimately bring what they wish to the religion from past experiences and combine it with the present possiblities of becoming that Facebook offers."
    • Mark Zuckerberg
  • "I hope my actions and choices do not influence the religion because they all revolve around meeting new girls and finding new partying places. I am not worried about reaching enlightenment or anything crazy like that; I am worried about influencing others to follow my fun, golden pathway."
    • Fragglemuffin

[edit] Language

  • The language of In Your Faceism is different from the language used in face-to-face communication. There is a technological spin on communication through the cyber world.
  • Language consists of abbreviations made up of various numbers and letters to represent words. The communication is more concise. Examples such as “lol,” “cyal8r,” “g2g” and “ttyl” are commonplace within In Your Faceism.

  • "The religion deteriorates our love of words. The more concise language used for communication takes away from how we conceive the world. Rational thoughts are diminished as causalities are used to a minimal extent within In Your Faceism."
    • Muller
  • "Facebook revolves around shortened communication so that we do not have to convey every thought or feeling. This allows for the opportunity to hold more cyberspace interactions with others, without the hassle of consuming a lot of time."
    • Fragglemuffin
  • "Those on Facebook actually attempt to portray their intricate thoughts to others and to gain a new love for language and details. Through these accomplishments, they gain a new appreciation of the intricate and true beauty within the world. With their new appreciations, they more easily reflect on who they really are."
    • Mark Zuckerberg

[edit] Symbols

  • Group: a blue and black head together. This symbol shows the idea of people coming together who share a common interest.
  • Video: a little gray camera. Videos can be posted on Facebook in order to remember good times and actively communicate with others.
  • Event: a little calendar with a date. Events are activities occurring within reality and serves as a daily reminder within the cyber realm.
  • Relationship: a red heart. This symbolizes an update by a Facebook user pertaining to their current relationship status.
  • Birthdays: a birthday present. This symbolizes a reminder of birthdays occurring on the current day as well as birthdays to come.
  • Top Friends: a blue box containing a white star. Top Friends is a way for a Facebook user to denote their most commonly viewed pages belonging to other users.
  • Bumper Sticker: a brown box with a face sticking out his tongue. Bumper Stickers are silly postings sent between Facebook friends with the intention of brightening their day.
  • Note: a piece of notebook paper. A note is a person's reflection on their daily activities.
  • Photo: a snapshot containing an image of a person. Photos are memories of past events and can be shared with friends.

[edit] The Opposition

  • As the development of facebook progressed, it became overwhelmed with a deluge of new applications. During the beginning phases of this extensive growth, users' caution dwindled and was replaced with an inclination to accept all invitations. Unfortunately, for those less likely to examine the unknown, “the poke” quickly surged through the cyber world disguising its repulsive evil behind a veil of childish innocence.
  • The poke is in actuality an abominable force burdened with an insatiable hunger for the young and inexperienced.
  • With a mere click of the mouse, you can poke, or virtually nudge, a Facebook comrade who are then notified on their homepage.
  • Designed as a method to demonstrate one’s intrigue in another, overzealous use of the poke converted its victims into what is called a “creeper.” This cyber stalker status is given only to those who are considered malicious and destined to ravage the original principles of cyber enlightenment.
  • Maintaining a lifestyle devoted to upholding the way to enlightenment is the only way to completely avoid contact with a malevolent creeper. It is said that the poke instills a want for acceptance in its victims which can never be appeased; hence, this juggernaut addiction will stop at nothing until the entire cyber world is consumed and the idea of total integration between the real and cyber is but a feeble memory in the minds of the people.
  • If one comes in contact with a creeper, it is strongly recommended to report the offender immediately to the elders who will then banish the individual from the cyber realms.
  • Symptoms include: spending excessive amounts time in front of your computer sending pokes to friends, family, and strangers; an obsession with having a poke returned to indicate that another victim has been officially claimed; and thoughts preventing the integration of our world with the cyber domain.
  • If you happen to fall victim to the poke, the only remedy is an immediate extraction of the application from one’s domain. Be safe on your journey into the world of pure enlightenment, and remember it is highly suggested that you keep your hands to yourself.
  • "In Your Faceism is simply a social networking tool thats allows its members to appease their hunger for popularity."
    • Segal
  • "Segal is insulting us by claiming we care only for popularity. The religion is so much more than social networking. Of course that is a main part of it but he is reductionistic in saying its only that. He fails to take into account that In Your Faceism helps a person regain the love for the intricate and to improve their personal being."
    • Anonymous member of In Your Faceism

    • Every day is a holiday, considering we strive toward who we really are and our own "perfection" continuously.

[edit] The Afterlife

  • Facebook is not a religion, but rather a tool for the religion of In Your Faceism.
  • Those who use the tool properly work towards true enlightenment where they develop an understanding and appreciation of self. When attained, they can move into the afterlife to continue their non-cyber lives, all the while understanding who they are removed from existential crises.
  • For those who misuse Facebook, or do not seek to better themselves through In Your Faceism, they are doomed to live out the rest of their lives as slaves; slaves to others’ perceptions. They will never know who they are and will define themselves through the way in which others perceive them.

[edit] Myth

  • Way back when, in the time period before texting was the craze, Tom Anderson created a social network, Myspace, in order to include only the most popular kids around. He accepted only those who held chill attitudes, socialized continuously and favored materialistic items. Sure, it was a brilliant idea according to those who were popular because they could communicate with people of their status, but it was hated by those who were different.
  • One year later, Mark Zuckerberg, one of the kids who was not so popular, came to the realization that there should not be such a website in existence in the cyberworld. With this in mind, he used his geeky skills to destruct Myspace and everything that was utilized to create it.
  • After the elimination of Myspace, the popular kids started beating up every kid in view that was not of their kind. An uncontrollable scene exploded and violence expanded. The popular kids would not end the turmoil until a new social network replaced the old.
  • In accordance with their idea, Mark Zuckerberg formed a new website in order to ease his guilt of the existent situation. He ultimately built a new social network that included everyone in order to create peace and harmony among everyone.
  • Mark, he who bridged the popular with those not so fortunate, came to call his social network "Facebook."

  • "Mark realized he had made a mistake by destroying someone else's network and experienced an extreme level of guilt. He overcompensated for his action and created a substitute for that which he destroyed in order to create a better relationship between him and his peers, along with the production of stronger relationships among all kids."
    • Freud
  • "Why are you getting all technical? Mark just wanted to gain popularity by placing himself as the "hero" in the situation. He wished to gain an abundancy of social ties by including everyone in the social network. No wonder why Mark has the most friends on Facebook; he creates brilliant schemes."
    • Fragglemuffin
  • "Have either of you realized what the heading of this section is titled? At least argue about something real."
    • Mark Zuckerberg

[edit] Sayings

  • "As a whole, we unite to bring enlightenment in your face."
  • "Don't bother me with your apathy, or I'll blog in your face."
    • “The fatuous act of blogging is merely a way for members to draw attention to themselves. It is psychological exhibitionism, or a means of conveying to the world all feelings and encounters with no intention of improving one’s state of being. The art is useless in the process of self reflection and should be discarded so that it does not prevent others from achieving the true goal of the religion.”
      • Freud
    • “Personally I feel that Freud is simply a man with no actual comrades raging out against those who are able to gather friends by the masses with the assistance of facebook. He tries desperately to find elements that are easily castigated and can arouse criticism so that he can increase his aplomb. I chide your bias Mr. Freud and say shame on you. A man of your intelligence should no better than to include your personal bias in matters that require intellectual assertion. Blogging is an effective way to relieve the anxiety caused by reality, a way to cope with the bad and turn it into something with a favorable effect.”
      • Mark Zuckerberg
  • "Embrace the face."
