| ਮਿਠ ਬੋਲੜਾ ਜੀ ਹਰਿ ਸਜਣੁ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਮੋਰਾ ॥ ਹਉ ਸੰਮਲਿ ਥਕੀ ਜੀ ਓਹੁ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਬੋਲੈ ਕਉਰਾ ॥ |
| Miṯẖ bolṛā jī har sajaṇ suāmī morā. Hao sammal thakī jī oh kaḏė na bolai kaurā. |
| My Dear Lord and Master, my Friend, speaks so sweetly. I have grown weary of testing Him, but still, He never speaks harshly to me. |
| ਬਈਅਰਿ ਬੋਲੈ ਮੀਠੁਲੀ ਭਾਈ ਸਾਚੁ ਕਹੈ ਪਿਰ ਭਾਇ ॥ ਬਿਰਹੈ ਬੇਧੀ ਸਚਿ ਵਸੀ ਭਾਈ ਅਧਿਕ ਰਹੀ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਇ ॥੮॥ |
| Baīar bolai mīṯẖulī bẖāī sācẖ kahai pir bẖāė. Birhai bėḏẖī sacẖ vasī bẖāī aḏẖik rahī har nāė. ॥8॥ |
| That soul-bride, who talks sweetly and speaks the Truth, O Siblings of Destiny, becomes pleasing to her Husband Lord. Pierced by His Love, she abides in Truth, O Siblings of Destiny, deeply imbued with the Lord's Name. ॥8॥ |
| ਪੂਜਾ ਵਰਤ ਤਿਲਕ ਇਸਨਾਨਾ ਪੁੰਨ ਦਾਨ ਬਹੁ ਦੈਨ ॥ ਕਹੂੰ ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ਸੰਜਮ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਬੋਲਹਿ ਮੀਠੇ ਬੈਨ ॥੧॥ |
| Pūjā varaṯ ṯilak isnānā punn ḏān baho ḏain. Kahūaʼn na bẖījai sanjam suāmī boleh mīṯẖė bain. ॥1॥ |
| Worship, fasting, ceremonial marks on one's forehead, cleansing baths, generous donations to charities and self-mortification - the Lord Master is not pleased with any of these rituals, no matter how sweetly one may speak. ॥1॥ |
There are some people who talk sweetly in front of others but behind their back they spit venom; the Guru has a special message for these people who appear very civilised and honourable but are the most evil-minded:
| ਓਇ ਹਾਜਰੁ ਮਿਠਾ ਬੋਲਦੇ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਵਿਸੁ ਕਢਹਿ ਮੁਖਿ ਘੋਲੇ ॥ ਮਨਿ ਖੋਟੇ ਦਯਿ ਵਿਛੋੜੇ ॥੧੧॥ |
| Oė hājar miṯẖā bolḏė bāhar vis kadẖeh mukẖ gẖolė. Man kẖotė ḏayi vicẖẖoṛė. ॥11॥ |
| In His Sublime Presence, they talk sweetly, but behind His back, they exude poison from their mouths. The evil-minded are consigned to separation from the Lord. ॥11॥ |
