The Immaculate Heart of Mary.

The Immaculate Heart of Mary is a modern Roman Catholic feast. It occurs on the day following the Sacred Heart of Jesus. This means that it always falls on the second Saturday after Trinity Sunday. The earliest it can occur is 30 May, and the latest is 3 June.

Theologically, the Immaculate Heart of Mary is intimately connected to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. It celebrates the emotional and moral aspect of the life of Mary, the Mother of Jesus. The Immaculate Heart of Mary is often depicted in a romanticised portrait of Mary, revealing her heart surrounded with lilies and topped by the fire of the Holy Spirit. The feast day, falling on a Saturday, harks back to Holy Saturday: Mary receives the lifeless body of her Son before his burial. It also echoes the prophecy of Simeon in Luke 2.35, that a sword will pierce her soul.
