Ignatius Isaac Azar was the Syriac Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch during 1709-1722. He was born in Mosul, and was made a monk and priest at the monastery of St. Mathew or Dayro D'Mor Mattai. Later he became the bishop of this monastery, and was elevated as the Maphrian in 1687. In 1709 he became the Patriarch of Antioch. In 1924 he resigned his post as the patriarch due to his old age.
