Mor Ignatios Abdul Masih II (1895-1905) was the 117th successor to St. Peter on the Holy Patriarchal See of Antioch. He was excommunicated by the Syriac Orthodox Church Synod in 1905.[1]

Even after his excommunication, he had a great role in the history of the Indian (Malankara) Orthodox Church. In 1912, he presided over a synod deciding to relocate the Catholicate of the East to India, and to ordain Baselios Paulose I as the first Catholicos of the East in the Honorary Apostolic Throne of St. Thomas as the Catholicos of the East.

In his last days, he was taken back by his own mother church and was allowed to spend his last days at Kurkuma Dayara living among the monks. He died in the monstery and was buried among the monks rather than a patriarchal tomb.
