His Grace, Ignatios was born in Corinth in 1951. He was educated in Corinth, having received a degree as a Foreman Mechanic, as well as a degree from the St. Nicholas Orthodox Theological Seminary. He also attended the Theological Faculty of the University of Thessaloniki from which he also received a degree. Bishop Ignatios speaks English, Korean, and Indian in addition to his native Greek.
In 1976, he was ordained a deacon and then a priest by Metropolitan Panteleimon of Corinth. He was tonsured a monk at the Monastery of Stravronikita on Mount Athos. From 1985, Fr. Ignatios served as a missionary in Korea for six years, followed by fourteen years service as a missionary in Western Bengal in India. Because of the effectiveness of his missionary efforts he was dismissed from India in June 2004.
In October 2004, he was elected Bishop of Madagascar following the repose of Bp. Nektarios in a helicopter accident enroute to Mount Athos and consecrated on November 14, 2004 in Alexandria by Patriarch Theodoros II. Since arriving he has undertaken the restoration of the churches, the theological seminary, and other infrastructure in Madagascar.
