His Eminence, the Most Reverend Ignatios (Madenlides) of Central Africa is Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Central Africa, part of the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Alexandria and All Africa.

George Madenlides was born in Edessa, Macedonia in 1930 where he completed his basic education. He received his theological education at the Theological Faculty of the University of Athens, receiving his degree in 1952. After receiving his degree, he served as a midshipman in the Hellenic Navy.

Following his nautical service, George began his 40 years service, until 1998, in the Archdiocese of Larisa as a preacher, first as a layman, then as a member of the Brotherhood of Theologians (“O SOTIR”), and finally as a member of the clergy. He was ordained a deacon in 1968 and as a priest in 1969. He was also raised to the rank of archimandrite. Beginning in 1981, Arch. Ignatios worked assisting Arch. Hariton Pnevmaktikakis for three to five months each year in missionary activity in Kananga in Congo (formerly Zaire). Then in 1997, due to the poor health of Arch. Hariton, the late Abp. Timotheos of Central Africa appointed Arch. Ignatios manager of a subdivision of the Mission.

On March 14, 2003, Arch. Igantios was elected Archbishop of Central Africa by the Holy Synod of Alexandria and consecrated bishop on March 16. On April 6, he was enthroned in the Archdiocese of Central Africa by Patriarch Petros VII.
