He came from a noble family and c. 1085 became a monk at the Benedictine monastery at Molesme. In 1094, together with a group of brothers, he founded a new branch of Molesme, the monastery of Notre-Dame des Alpes, in Aulps modern day France. In 1138 Guarinus was appointed Bishop of Sion and later became revered as a saint. He died at Aulps, in 1150[1].
