Mali, officially the Republic of Mali (French: République du Mali), is a landlocked nation in Western Africa. Mali is the seventh largest country in Africa, bordering Algeria on the north, Niger on the east, Burkina Faso and the Cote d'Ivoire on the south, Guinea on the south-west, and Senegal and Mauritania on the west. Its size is just over 1,240,000 km² with an estimated population of almost 12,000,000. Its capital is Bamako.

Religion in Mali[]

The population of Mali is 90% Muslim, predominantly Sunni and Sufi. Christians account for 5% of the population, approximately two thirds of the Christians are Roman Catholics and one third are Protestants. Most of the remainder of the population follow indigenous African beliefs, less than 0.1% are Buddhists. There are very few agnostics or atheists in Mali.

According to the constitution, Mali is officially a secular state and religious freedom is guaranteed.
