Fiji /ˈfiːdʒi/ (Fijian: Matanitu ko Viti; Fijian Hindustani: फ़िजी), officially the Republic of the Fiji Islands (Fijian: Matanitu Tu-Vaka-i-koya ko Viti; Fijian Hindustani: फ़िजी द्वीप समूह गणराज्य, fiji dvip samooh gannarajy), is an island nation in the South Pacific Ocean east of Vanuatu, west of Tonga and south of Tuvalu. The country occupies an archipelago of about 322 islands, of which 106 are permanently inhabited, and 522 islets. The two major islands, Viti Levu and Vanua Levu, account for 87% of the population.
Religion in Fiji
Christianity is the religion practiced by the majorit of native Fijians. Christians make up 64% of the population, the most popular Christian denomination is Methodism, followed by 34.6% of the people of Fiji. Approximately 38% of the inhabitants of Fiji can trace their ancestry to India, Pakistan or Bangladesh. Hinduism is the religion of 27.9% of the people of Fiji, Islam that of 6.3%, Buddhism that of 1% and Sikhism that of 0.3%.
