Don Aslett is an Idaho businessman known for his cleaning products and services. He was raised on farms in south central Idaho. He had an entreprenual spirit as a young boy when his income from farm chores did not pay him enough. He had Latter-day Saint heritage and was baptized into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at age eight. However, his family did not attend the LDS church regularly but Protestant and non-denominational community churches.
He did earn a living from the sale of farm projects, particularly for 4-h and FFA projects. He also excelled in athletics, participated in producing School publications, and held political offices in the small school he attended.
While attending Idaho State College (now Idaho State University), Aslett realized his income from various farm projects would run out, so he found a job at a soda bottling factory. Not liking all the mandatory deductions, he and some friends started a housecleaning business, which they named Varsity Contractors. While at Idaho State, Aslett also started attending the LDS church, thanks to the influence of people on campus and LDS friends and adults he knew in High School.
He served briefly in the Army, and then served a mission to the Hawaiian Islands. Upon his return, he married Barbara Morris and used the cleaning business to finance himself through school. It took him eight years to earn his degree, but he finally earned a degree in education, while working his way through as a cleaner. He also participated on the baseball and debate teams at Idaho State University.
Following college he taught briefly and coached in the public schools. Aslett coached as well while running his business after hours and on Saturdays and during summers.
He eventually stopped teaching High School to devote fulltime to his business with a friend. His company has grown to all 50 states and parts of Canada.
He spent most of his adult life in Pocatello, Idaho, with a brief stint in Sun Valley. In addition to his janitorial work, he has written many books on how to clean homes, offices and businesses. The books include advice on time management, how to succeed in business and how to be a good employee and employer.
He regularly makes appearances on several Radio and Television shows, among them Oprah Winfrey, the Discovery Channel and QVC. He is also a much sought-after speaker.
He has served many years in Scouting and as a Bishop and High Councilor. He recently served a mission to Boston Massachusetts with his wife as well. His company is well known, and he is still active in day to day operations with many cleaning centers being established throughout the Intermountain West. In 1993 he was named Idaho Business leader of the year.
