First of all a smart buddhist monk has given us some advice;

There is nothing right in copyright. If there is, then there will be nothing left.[1]

The Dhamma is free. The Buddha did not hold copyrights either The sharing of the Buddha Dhamma is solely for the purpose of prolonging the buddhasasana through release

Holding the right to encourage doing good, discourage from doing bad and provide guidance in purifying the mind does not seem right.

However we have to follow the law and have to license.[2] all the text contributions in this wiki.[3] All text contributions on Religion Wiki and Religionwiki.net is by default released under Creative Commons-Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unportedlicense. Please note that all contributions before August 2010 to Religion-wiki are considered to be released under a dual license;CC-BY-SA or GFDL.

You are also promising us that you wrote this yourself, or copied it from a public domain or similar free resource. Do not submit copyrighted work without permission!

For other licenses (especially for images), see Help:Image licenses.[4] This dual license does not mean that every content or image is licensed under these terms. Content that is licenced under other terms is tagged with a special license template. Read those templates carefully before using the content.

Articles created originally on Religion Wiki are available under the Creative Commons-Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported license or any later.

Object Linking and Embedding[]

Object Linking and Embedding (OLE) is a technology that allows embedding and linking to documents and other objects developed by Microsoft. For developers, it brought OLE Control eXtension (OCX), a way to develop and use custom user interface elements. On a technical level, an OLE object is any object that implements the IOleObject interface, possibly along with a wide range of other interfaces, depending on the object's needs. All this is done in a legal and proper way and where needed given credits to the OLE provider.

Inline linking[]

Inline linking (also known as hotlinking, leeching, piggy-backing, direct linking, offsite image grabs and bandwidth theft) is the use of a linked object, often an image, from one site into a web page belonging to a second site. Religion Wiki takes part in several toplists from all over the world. The toplist owners have given permission to their members for hotlinking their banners Inline, hotlinking is legal as long you have asked permission. I noticed Religion Wiki has copied my articles and my wiki is hosted on my own server?

It doesn't matter if your wiki is on your own server or not. Current default licenses on MediaWiki are Attribution-Share Alike 3.0 Unported and GNU Free Documentation License(GDFL) . By creating a Wiki you should have arranged your own license in advanced.[5]

Importing Wikipedia content[]

All text published before June 15, 2009 was released under the GFDL, and you may also use the page history to retrieve content published before that date to ensure GFDL compatibility.

The Text published after this date is by default under Creative Commons Attribution/Share-Alike License 3.0 (Unported). For compatibility reasons, you are also required to license it under the GNU Free Documentation License (unversioned, with no invariant sections, front-cover texts, or back-cover texts). Re-users can choose the license(s) they wish to comply with. Please note that these licenses do allow commercial uses of your contributions, as long as such uses are compliant with the terms.

Since 22/02/2010 Religion Wiki has adopted the Wikipedia Policy.

Importing content from other Wikis hosted by Wikia[]

Basically we are using the same license CC-BY-SA all content from other wikis may copied here and vice versa. .[6]

Exporting Religion Wiki material[]

When exporting original material[7] from Religion Wiki, the dual licensing means that you can choose which license to export content under—it is "either/or" not "both." It is important to note that this only applies to material submitted directly to Religion Wiki. Articles that began as Wikipedia imports may only be exported under the GFDL (while the added parts alone may be either CC by-sa or GFDL). The licenses are pretty similar, with some minor differences. All that is required to use religion wiki material is to cite your source and include a link back to the original article (preferably its versioned URL, which can be found by clicking the most recent date on the history page). This does not apply to material explicitly licensed in some other way, which should be noted on the article or other material (many photographs, for instance, are licensed only to Religion Wiki and may not be exported).

Religion Wiki Notice: Most Religion Wiki content may, unless otherwise noted, be freely used under the GFDL. This means we only ask for a link back to the original article (preferably its URL version, which can be found by clicking on the most recent date on the history page), with proper credit given. You do not need to include the list of authors, since they will be listed in our local article history.

Submitting Content to the Site and Copyrights[]

You are solely responsible for the content, including but not limited to photos, profiles information, messages, search results edits, and other content that you upload, publish or display (hereinafter, "submit") on or through Religion Wiki or transmit to or share with other users. You may not submit content to Religion Wiki that you did not create or that you not have permission to submit.(see alsocompatible with the CC-BY-SA license). For submissions to search results pages, you may not submit content that is not compatible with the license used by Religion Wiki. You understand and agree that the others may, but are not obligated to, edit, delete or remove (without notice) any content from Religion Wiki, for any reason or no reason. You are solely responsible at your sole cost and expense for creating backup copies and replacing any content you post or store on Religion Wiki

When you post content on Religion Wiki, you authorize and direct us to make such copies thereof as we deem necessary in order to facilitate the posting and storage of the content on the Site.

Copyright Violation[]

Violations of copyright law on Religion Wiki are not tolerated. All material is the responsibility of the contributors to the site, so while the administration does the best it can to prevent violation of copyright law, some material may have slipped their notice. (See: religionwiki:Disclaimer.) If you own a copyright that is being violated on Religion Wiki, contact the Religion Wiki Staff immediately so that the problem may be resolved.

Articles not originally written by Religion Wiki Users are most likely come from another MediaWiki Projects which is licenced by default under the license Attribution-Share Alike 3.0 Unported. (Older projects might be licensed under GFDL) If not the responsible wiki staff should have made a clear statement/policy/disclaimer about its copyright. It might be possible that some material has not included the right open source license. Feel free adding the right license to the article or contact us with this issue so we can correct it for you.
