Charitar 187 is about a lady called Kaam Kala and hence the name "Tale of Kaam Kala". It is part of the Charitropakhyan. The tale is about a lady who was well versed with the Vedas and Shastras, the ancient holy books of India, who eventually killed her son.
It is a very short story. Her son didn't obey his parents. He spent his money in wrong deeds, associated with rogues and he was a womenizer and drunkard too. But her other son was a suave man, so the mother loved the other son very much. She was fed up with the vices of her son, so she decided to end his life. As a person like this would be not right as his son and for the world. Once his son came to house and was sleeping, she shut the door and set the room ablaze. One could say she stopped him from using his body to do more paap (evil/sin). After that, she woke her other son and cried out to her neighbors for help in putting out the fire.
Its up to the reader to decide whether she did right or wrong. The helplessness of a mother seeing hes son getting corrupted to the core and her extreme action is depicted in this charitar.
The Charitar is here below:
There lived a lady called Kaamkala who was adept in Shastras and Vedas. Her son was very disobedient and she was always distressed.(1)
He was always drenched in base thinking and squandered his parent’s money. He constantly kept the company of the rogues and lived and drank wine by committing thefts.(2)
His other brother was very suave and was devoid of all the vices. The mother loved him but wanted to kill the other one.(3)
One day when he had come home, she saw him sleeping in the straw- hut. At the entrance ofthe hut, she lit a fire, and killed him while asleep.(4)
She awoke the (other) son and then cried incessantly to make the world known. She started to fetch water and the foolish people did not fathom the trickery.(5)(1)
