Ajahn Vayama ordained as a Ten Precept Nun in 1985, at Parappuduwa Nuns' Island, in Sri Lanka, with Venerable Ayya Khema as her teacher. She spent ten years in Sri Lanka, before moving on to Amaravati Monastery in England, and finally returning to Sydney, intent on extending the training opportunities for Buddhist Nuns in the Southern hemisphere.

Currenly she is the Abbot of Dhammasara, a Buddhist monastery and temple in Australia.
